Hurricane Helene Update #3

September 26, 2024, at 5 p.m.

Campus has been prepared for potential impacts from Hurricane Helene. Based on current forecasts that show the storm moving away from Central Florida, we will resume normal classes and operations Friday, September 27.

Our emergency team will make ongoing assessments throughout the evening and nighttime hours and will complete a thorough safety and damage assessment Friday morning.

Students are encouraged to continue monitoring local weather outlets and pay attention to any R-Alert messages due to the increased risk of tornado warnings.

Students needing assistance or who are experiencing extenuating circumstances can contact the Student Outreach & Resource Center at care@rollins.edu or call 407.646.2345.

Please visit the FAQs on the College’s emergency site for hours of operation for dining and other campus services, and continue to check rollins.edu/emergency and social media for the most updated information.

Hurricane Helene Update #2

September 25, 2024, at 12:15 p.m.

In preparation for potential impacts from Hurricane Helene, Rollins will close and cancel all classes, including online classes, on Thursday, September 26.

It is anticipated that normal operations will resume on Friday, September 27, pending a damage assessment of the campus.

During the closure:

  • All academic assignments and exams are suspended.
  • All residential housing will remain open and operational. We are not depopulating campus.
  • The main dining hall in Cornell Campus Center and the Fox Lodge will be open. All other dining locations will be closed.
  • All activities and events are canceled.

Students are encouraged to monitor local weather outlets and pay attention to any R-Alert messages due to the increased risk of tornado warnings that may be associated with some of the rain bands we are expected to receive.

This decision is being made out of an abundance of caution for the entire Rollins community, both here on campus and for all of those who commute from their homes. During times of declared emergency, focus on your personal safety and well-being. Students needing assistance can contact the Student Outreach & Resource Center at care@rollins.edu or call 407-646-2345. If you haven’t done so, complete the Hurricane Tracker in MyRollins.

Emergency essential employees should communicate with their supervisor/department heads today to set expectations for work schedules on Thursday.

Please continue to check rollins.edu/emergency and Rollins social media (@rollinscollege) for the most updated information. For additional information, visit the FAQs on the College’s emergency site.
