Hannah Ewing, PhD
Associate Professor of History
Hannah Ewing is an Associate Professor of History at Rollins College, where she has taught since 2014.
At Rollins, she mostly teaches courses on Ancient and Medieval history, with an emphasis on the Mediterranean (including the Islamic world). She also contributes courses to the General Education, Classical Studies, Middle Eastern and North African Studies, and International Relations programs. In 2017, Dr. Ewing won an Outstanding Faculty Award from the Rollins Student Government Association, and in 2021-22 was an Arthur Vining Davis fellow for faculty excellence.
On campus, she also advises students and served as a R-Compass Advising Mentor to other faculty. She has served as department chair and the Rollins chapter advisor to Phi Alpha Theta, the history honor society. Dr. Ewing has also been a member of the Executive Committee, Curriculum Committee, Student Life Committee, co-chaired the Scholarship for High Impact Practices grant program, and is a member (and former director) of the Classical Studies Program steering committee.
Her research interests include the twelfth century, monasticism and monastic reform, female abbots, hagiography, Byzantine-Western relations, the Crusades, and bishops.
